I’m very pleased to announce that one of my images has been Highly Commended in this years British Wildlife Photography Awards and features in the travelling exhibition and book. I had a fantastic evening at the awards ceremony in London.
The image of a Red deer stag roaring at sunrise was taken at Bushy Park in October during the annual rut. I had left home around 04:30am to be at the park before sunrise and met up with good friend and fellow professional photographer Jamie Hall who knew the park well. The London parks are always full of photographers during this time of year and we headed away from the crowd to a small wooded area where we could hear this stag roaring through the early morning fog. I got myself in to position and framed the shot as seen and just had to wait for the stag to roar. I knew this was going to make a good image but once in position I was worried the stag was not roaring and would walk away but my patience paid off and I was able to capture a series of images of it roaring with this image being my favourite.
I’m particular pleased to have had this image awarded as this was my first and only time to date I have been to one of the London parks to photograph the deer where many other photographers are constantly going but it is my image that has been awarded.
